The Medical and Veterinary Virus Research (MVVR) symposium is an initiative of KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme and KEMRI- CDC and the National Influenza Centre. The collaborations are world-class research centers in East Africa involved in various research areas of interest to public health including virology.
Viral infections play a significant role in both human and animal health in Kenya, regionally and globally. A considerable amount of research and surveillance on respiratory, enteric, arthropod-borne, zoonotic and sexually transmitted viruses are ongoing in Africa. It is therefore important that scientists working in the field of medical and veterinary virus research interact and share their research experiences. The MVVR forum provides an opportunity to showcase various research works going on in the region and enable networking and collaborations among the researchers in this important field.
